Wider weather episode

Northern Ohio resided within the warm and humid sector along the northwestern flank of the Bermuda-Azores subtropical high during the late morning of the 17th through late evening of the 20th. In addition, a cold front drifted southeastward from the western Great Lakes to Lake Erie and northwest OH by the evening of the 20th.

Well-ahead of the the cold front, scattered multicell thunderstorms developed and persisted generally eastward or east-northeastward across northern Ohio during the early afternoon through early evening of the 17th and 18th, respectively. The ambient environment consisted of moderate to strong MUCAPE and DCAPE, respectively, and moderate effective bulk shear. Sporadic severe hail and straight-line convective wind damage occurred. Isolated flash flooding also occurred in northeast OH during the evening of the 18th. An isolated, slow-moving thunderstorm produced torrential rainfall across southeast Trumbull County, which led to localized flash flooding. Two rounds of thunderstorms across Lake County produced minor flash flooding due to intense rainfall rates.
