Event narrative
Cleveland Water Alliance Buoy located about five-miles northwest of Marblehead recorded a peak convective wind gust of 40-mph related to a wake low behind a line of showers and thunderstorms.
Wider weather episode
The Lake Erie region resided in the warm and humid sector during the morning of the 25th through early evening of the 26th as a cold front drifted southeastward from the Upper Midwest to southern ON, southeastern Lower MI, and northern IN. Ahead of the front, a line of multicell showers and thunderstorms moved southeastward across the western-half of Lake Erie on the 25th, weakened as the convection outpaced greater instability and encountered a tight westerly gradient in weak to moderate MUCAPE, and was followed by a potent wake low accompanied by a tight MSLP gradient. The line of showers and thunderstorms, and the trailing wake low generated gale-force convective wind gusts along and near the northwest OH lakeshore amidst moderate DCAPE and effective bulk shear, respectively.
On the 26th, additional scattered to numerous multicell showers and thunderstorms developed over Lake Erie, ahead of the front, and persisted generally eastward while encountering weak to moderate MUCAPE and DCAPE, respectively, and moderate to strong effective bulk shear in the warm and moist sector. These storms produced additional gale-force convective wind gusts along the northern OH shore.
