Heat indices of 105-115F were reached in much of Southwest Kentucky on the 3rd and 4th. Strong moisture advection raised dew points to the mid 70s to lower 80s both days. The highest observed heat index was 126F on the 4th at the Murray-Calloway County Airport AWOS, though dew points and heat indices may be overestimated at that site (elsewhere, a 115F heat index was observed at the Cadiz 4 SW Kentucky Mesonet site on the 4th). Thunderstorms on the 3rd generally held off until sunset for Western Kentucky while scattered afternoon thunderstorms developed on the 4th.
