Event narrative

Water flowed over US-41 about 1.1 miles north of Providence. Overnight rainfall totals had radar estimated and measurements of 3 to 5 inches in portions of southern Webster County north of Providence.

Wider weather episode

Torrential training rainfall redeveloped overnight heading into the 17th, this time over portions of Western Kentucky in the Pennyrile region. Rainfall totals reached 2-7 inches with flooding observed in Livermore, Providence, Madisonville, and several towns in Muhlenberg County. As was the case in the morning, the greater PW values near 2.2 inches had shifted to Western Kentucky, with 850mb moisture transport focused on the area. A slow moving boundary resided to the north, channeling moisture along the boundary on the south side.
