Hail measured to nickel size fell on the southwest side of Mount Vernon.

Wider weather episode

Thunderstorms dove southeastward through Southern Illinois during the late evening hours on the 29th. A few of these storms produced damaging wind gusts, downing trees and powerlines. MLCAPE fell from 3000 to 1500 J/kg over the course of the evening, while DCAPE remained around 1200 J/kg. Effective bulk shear was approximately 35 kts.
