Event narrative

Thunderstorm winds blew a tree down on power lines. Multiple trees were downed onto state roads and a utility pole was blown down.

Wider weather episode

A particularly explosive storm environment developed on the afternoon of the 30th. MLCAPE values rose to 3500-4000 J/kg, 0-3 km CAPE of 100-150 J/kg, effective bulk shear of 30-40 kts, and 0-3 km shear of 20-30 kts. Temperatures rose to the low 90s with dew points in the upper 70s to near 80, yielding heat index values near 110. For Southern Illinois, an MCS dove southeastward during the afternoon, producing sporadic thunderstorm wind damage.
