Daily afternoon and evening heat indices ranged from 100 to 107 degrees with a maximum heat index of 107 degrees at a Road Weather Information System site and 105 degrees at the Automated Surface Observing System site near Spencer on July 13. Heat index values returned to 101 degrees near Spencer on July 15.

Wider weather episode

Very warm temperatures with highs in the lower to mid 90s paired with oppressive dew point readings in the upper 70s to lower 80s produced afternoon and evening heat indices generally from 100 to 120 degrees with little overnight recovery. The most widespread oppressive conditions occurred during the afternoon and evening on July 13, with a secondary peak of heat on July 15.
