Event narrative

Stream gauges indicated flash flooding developed across the north side of Charlotte after 2 to 3 inches of rain fell in just a couple of hours. A gauge on Irwin Creek exceeded its established flood stage in the Statesville Ave area. Mallard Creek overflowed its banks in the northeast part of the city, inundating Pavillion Blvd and flooding parking lots.

Wider weather episode

Areas of slow-moving thunderstorms and storm clusters developed across western North Carolina during the evening. Very heavy rain falling in a short period of time resulted in flash flooding across Henderson County and on the north side of Charlotte.
