Daily afternoon and evening heat indices ranged from 100 to 109 degrees with a maximum heat index of 109 degrees at a personal weather station near Dakota City and 102 degrees at a personal weather station in South Sioux City on July 13. The heat index returned to 108 degrees near Dakota City on July 15.

Wider weather episode

Very warm temperatures with highs in the lower to mid 90s paired with oppressive dew point readings in the upper 70s to lower 80s produced afternoon and evening heat indices generally from 100 to 110 degrees with little overnight recovery. The most widespread oppressive conditions occurred during the afternoon and evening on July 13, with a secondary peak of heat across northeast Nebraska on July 15.
