An organized line of thunderstorms developed across western South Dakota during the evening hours of July 13 and spread eastward through the night. The environment featured 2000-3000 J/kg MUCAPE, 25 to 35 knots of deep-layer shear, and an increasingly warm and dry capped layer farther eastward through South Dakota. Widespread damaging wind developed with the mesoscale convective system with gusts from 60 to 75 mph common.
