The end of July heat event continued through the afternoon on August 1st, with a few isolated showers late afternoon. Cooler and drier conditions remained afterwards. The highest heat index on the 1st in Southeast Missouri was 114F at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport ASOS site. Some counties reached excessive heat warning criteria by meeting at least heat advisory criteria 4 consecutive days.
