Event narrative

The Weatherflow mesonet station Ship Island XHSI measured a thunderstorm wind gust of 40 mph or 35 knots.

Wider weather episode

A Mesoscale Convective System developed in eastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas in the early morning hours of August 12th. This MCS was fairly short-lived, decaying by that evening over north-central Mississippi. The residual boundary slowly sagged south through the day on August 13th. It reached the Mississippi coast during peak heating and provided sufficient lift to support intensifying thunderstorms. Those storms produced severe wind gusts at multiple marine observation locations along the Mississippi coast and the Mississippi Sound.
