Event narrative

Wind gust was measured at the Cabana Road WeatherFlow station in the Pungo River as thunderstorms were moving through the area.

Wider weather episode

A wave of low pressure tracked ENE'wards across North Carolina during the afternoon and evening of September 31st along a stalled frontal boundary eventually pushing offshore by the early morning hours on October 1st. As this occurred, shower and thunderstorm activity developed along and just out ahead of this wave of low pressure during the afternoon of September 31st along the Coastal Plain with this activity then pushing E'wards during the evening hours. A few of the thunderstorms became strong to severe in nature bringing damaging wind gusts to portions of the Pamlico and Pungo Rivers during the evening of September 31st.
