Upper-level high pressure spread eastward across the Mid-South while surface moisture advected into the region from Hurricane Debby, which made landfall along the west coast of Florida on August 5, 2024. As a result, hot and humid conditions returned to the Mid-South with heat index values exceeding 105 degrees in some areas.
