The Weatherflow mesonet on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway XPTN measured a thunderstorm wind gust of 50 mph or 44 knots.
Wider weather episode
An upper level low centered over Texas drove ample moisture northward from the Gulf of Mexico into the local area. This moisture, combined with very warm low level temperatures was able to support a few severe thunderstorms, one of which passed over Lake Pontchartrain.
