Event narrative

County comms and a stream gage indicated flash flooding developed across the Hunting Creek basin after 3.5 to 4.5 inches of rain fell across the area in association with the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby, with much of that falling within a 2-4 hour window during the afternoon if the 8th. Portions of Enola Rd, Mountain Home Church Rd, and Coal Chute Rd were inundated by water from Hunting Creek or one of its tributaries.

Wider weather episode

The remnants Tropical Storm Debby made landfall in the Florida Big Bend on the 5th, lifted steadily northeast across southeast Georgia before turning north through the South Carolina coastal plain and the North Carolina Piedmont on the 7th and 8th. Rainfall amounts of 4 to 7 inches with locally higher amounts resulted in flash flooding across portions of western North Carolina. In addition, very gusty winds caused scattered downed trees, which resulted in sporadic damage to structures.
