Event narrative
A significant portion of a pole barn roof was lifted and folded back. A calf shelter was destroyed, wind bread panels were scattered, and a one-thousand gallon water tank blew over and rolled.
Wider weather episode
A cold front moved into western North Dakota, which led to thunderstorm development during the evening hours. Some of the storms became severe, producing damaging wind gusts. The strongest wind gusts, which occurred in Hettinger County north of Burt, were estimated at 80 mph. These wind gusts caused significant damage to a pole barn roof, calf shelter, wind break panels, and a water tank.
