Severe/D2 drought conditions has expanded to cover many counties across northeast South Dakota. While dry conditions started in August, the climate for September was a much more extreme anomaly, with Sisseton recording its warmest average temperature for the month, Aberdeen its 2nd and Watertown its 3rd. Sisseton recorded its 3rd driest September on record, while Watertown observed its 6th. These ambient dry conditions continued into October, with Watertown and Aberdeen observing their 4th and 6th driest Octobers on record, respectively. In addition to October being abnormally dry; Aberdeen, Sisseton and Watertown would all see average temperatures for the month at least 6 degrees above normal.
