Wider weather episode
The remnants of Hurricane Helene made their way through the Quad State region with heavy rainfall in Western Kentucky of 4 to 6 inches with the highest totals near 6.5 inches in West Paducah and in Crittenden County. Despite the high rainfall totals, hourly rainfall rates remained low enough to keep flooding issues minor. Several strong wind gusts of 40+ mph were observed and tree damage was reported as saturated soils made trees more susceptible. Paducah also observed their lowest September pressure reading of 992.8 mb, 3.1 mb lower than the old record of 995.9mb from Hurricane Ike in 2008.
