Event narrative

On the second week of October, D2-Severe drought expanded into the far eastern border of Dawson County. On the third week of October, D2-Severe drought spread into the northern half of Dawson County and pushed a little more east on the southeastern portion of the county, while D3-Extreme drought moved into the eastern border of Dawson county along the Wibaux County border. On the fourth week of October, all but the far eastern border of Dawson County had worsened to D-2 Severe drought, with the easter border of the county along the Wibaux County border remaining in D3-Extreme drought. These conditions remained the same through the end of the month.

Wider weather episode

With October starting off dry, drought conditions expanded westward into Dawson County.
