Event narrative

San Juan Emergency Managers called to report that, due to flooding, they closed the intersection between Simon Madera St. and PR-8 (Ramal 8) near the Mall of San Juan and Teodoro Moscoso Bridge. This is between San Jose Lake, Villa Olimpica Urbanization and Las Virtudes Urbanization.

Wider weather episode

A prefrontal trough, an approaching tropical wave, and the remnants of Tropical Storm Oscar combined to generate showers and thunderstorms across the area. The diurnal heating and the available moisture from these features also contributed to the development of strong convection across the interior and western Puerto Rico each afternoon. In general, 2 to 3 inches of rainfall were registered each day. This led to urban flooding, as well as mudslides in several municipalities.
