Event narrative

Severe drought (D2) conditions persisted through late month before improving by the end of the month.

Wider weather episode

Severe (D2) to extreme (D3) drought conditions persisted across north Mississippi through September. Elevated wildfire danger continued with burn bans in effect as abnormally dry and unseasonably warm conditions were present. Pastures across the area provided little to no feed and supplemental feeding of livestock was required. Tropical Depression Helene was able to squash worsening conditions at the end of the month.
