A deep low pressure system generated widespread strong winds. A peak wind gust of 69 mph was observed by the Pierre Regional Airport ASOS, while 68 mph gusts were recorded by mesonet weather stations 1 mile northeast of Ridgeview in Dewey county, 10 miles southwest of Chantier Creek rec area in Stanley county and 10 miles south of Bullhead in Corson county. Additionally, another 24 weather stations scattered across central, north central and northeast South Dakota would observer a peak wind gust in excess of 60 mph. These strong winds caused a partly constructed framework of a storage building to collapse on the west side of Aberdeen.
