Event narrative

Helene's expansive wind field produced a period of tropical storm conditions, especially in gusts, over the nearshore waters of the Treasure Coast. A Scripps Institution of Oceanography buoy just offshore Fort Pierce Inlet, Station 41114, recorded maximum seas up to 9 feet.

Wider weather episode

Major Hurricane Helene paralleled the west coast of Florida before making landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida near the city of Perry. The system's expansive wind field produced tropical storm conditions across much of east central Florida including its adjacent coastal waters.
