Event narrative

Snow began in Yuma county during the early morning of November 6th and continued through the early morning on November 9th. The greatest reported snow amount was 13 inches 2 ESE of Yuma, which was for the duration of the event. Additional snowfall reports ranging from 3-12 inches were reported. Other reports of 12 inches for the event were reported from Kirk and in the town of Yuma as well. Eight to ten inches of snow fell in Wauneta from the 6th through the 8th along, with 7-9 inches of snow in Wray during the same time period. Nearly all state highways across the county were closed at some point during the event. Key impacts: heavy snow, visibility reduction, and road closures.

Wider weather episode

A prolonged heavy, wet snow event occurred with snow starting during the evening hours on the 5th and continuing through the early morning hours of November 9th. The heaviest snow fell November 6th and November 8th with a period of lighter but still accumulating snow on the 7th. Numerous snow reports of 1-2+ feet were reported across Yuma, Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties with the highest totals across western portions of each county. Interstate 70 was shutdown initially on the 6th before reopening that night and then shutting down again on the 7th and then lasting into the 9th.
