Wider weather episode
A strong low pressure system moved northward through the plains before stalling over southeastern Manitoba, Canada. As it moved through, precipitation developed over parts of North Dakota on November 19, with snow developing in earnest over north central and parts of northwestern North Dakota as cold air wrapped in. The heaviest snow reported was 14 inches at Lake Metigoshe in Bottineau County. Winds became strong over the region with the stalled low, which combined with the new snow to produce a blizzard on November 20.
