Event narrative

Below normal rainfall during the latter half of September resulted in Severe Drought (D2) conditions across the entire county except across the far southwest on the 1st. Warmer than normal temperatures and well below normal rainfall resulted in the entire county being classified in Severe Drought (D2) by the 15th, which continued through the end of the month. Beneficial rainfall was noted on the 30th and 31st when Sturgeon Bay recorded 1.45 inches (75% of the monthly total). The rainfall was not incorporated into the Drought Monitor until early November. The rainfall total for the month was 2.95 inches, (normal is 3.24 inches), which was 91% of normal.

Wider weather episode

Conditions turned drier than normal during the latter half of September. Meanwhile, warm and dry conditions continued through much of October, leading to Severe Drought (D2) across portions of north-central and northeast Wisconsin. The Drought Monitor indicated Severe Drought (D2) conditions were noted north and east of a line from Merrill to Green Bay to Two Creeks. Soaking rains brought relief to the drought-stricken area on the 30th and 31st.
