Event narrative

Below normal rainfall during the latter half of September resulted in Severe Drought (D2) conditions across the entire county except the far southwest where Moderate Drought (D1) conditions were observed at the beginning of October. Warmer than normal temperatures and near normal rainfall resulted in Severe Drought (D2) continuing through the 29th. At Kewaunee, there were two rounds of heavier rain. The first heavy rain event occurred on the 13th-14th when Kewaunee recorded 1.50 inches. The second heavy rain event occurred on the 30th-31st when another 1.65 inches was recorded. The rainfall late in the month was not incorporated into the Drought Monitor until early November. The monthly rainfall total at Kewaunee was 3.29 inches (normal is 2.91 inches), which was 113% of normal.

Wider weather episode

Conditions turned drier than normal during the latter half of September. Meanwhile, warm and dry conditions continued through much of October, leading to Severe Drought (D2) across portions of north-central and northeast Wisconsin. The Drought Monitor indicated Severe Drought (D2) conditions were noted north and east of a line from Merrill to Green Bay to Two Creeks. Soaking rains brought relief to the drought-stricken area on the 30th and 31st.
