Event narrative

A winter storm produced 6 to 10 inches of snow across Cambria County with higher elevations seeing up to 1 foot of snow from the early morning through the late evening of November 22, 2024. State Route 553 and US Route 22 West were closed for a period of time, with multiple accidents reported.

Wider weather episode

An area of low pressure across New England began slowly moving westward during the late evening hours of November 21 and into November 22, 2024 allowing for a long-duration snow event for portions of central Pennsylvania. A strong pressure gradient northwest of the area of low pressure also allowed for gusty winds throughout the event with a wet snow prompting multiple trees and wires down throughout portions of Sullivan County, resulting in over 70% of the county having no power. There were also multiple roads closed across portions of Cambria and Somerset Counties with disabled vehicles, trees/wires down, and jack-knifed trailers.
