Event narrative

There was a return to severe drought conditions (D2) for the southwest corner of the county with the southeast corner remaining in D2. The northern half of the county is in abnormally dry (D0) or moderate drought (D1).

Wider weather episode

Severe drought conditions (D2) expanded across portions of southern Kansas during October impacting primarily the counties along the border with Oklahoma. There are a couple of exceptions with slight improvements in parts of Cowley and northern Labette counties.
