Severe (D2) drought worsened briefly mid-month to extreme (D3) drought with an early month dry period, then improved back to severe (D2) conditions after more than normal monthly rain occurred in a single day.

Wider weather episode

Rainfall varied from near normal to almost 250 percent of normal during the month, with the least precipitation over portions of far southeast South Dakota and toward the Missouri River in south central South Dakota. Heavier precipitation mid-month led to improvement in drought conditions in the far east by late month.
