Wider weather episode
A major severe weather and flooding event unfolded across Middle Tennessee on February 15-16, 2025. As well above average moisture spread into the area, this helped set the stage for very heavy rainfall across Middle Tennessee. Showers and thunderstorms began early during the day on February 15th, and the primary threat with this first round was flooding. The most significant flooding was reported in Montgomery and Robertson counties where numerous roadways were flooded, and several homes were inundated with water. Area rivers and creeks also rose in response to the heavy rain with the Cumberland River, Red River, and Harpeth River all entering flood stage. A second round of showers and thunderstorms moved into Middle Tennessee during the evening of February 15th and through the morning hours of February 16th ahead of a cold front. Additional heavy rain and flash flooding was a threat with these thunderstorms as well, but the risk for severe weather also increased with reports of large hail and high winds received. In the wake of the cold front, non-convective strong winds were observed across much of the area. While these winds were generally less than 58 mph, the Crossville ASOS station did observe a brief gust up to 60 mph which caused minor damage in the area.
