Wider weather episode
Areas of southeast South Dakota were on the southern edge of a band of snowfall which brushed areas north of Interstate 90, and was heaviest from 3 to 6 inches closer to Highway 14. A majority of poor visibility conditions as low as one mile or less was caused by the snowfall which was largely ahead of the stronger winds with this system. Winds were strongest through the Missouri River corridor with gusts as high as 60 to 70 mph, while closer to 35 to 50 mph toward southwest Minnesota.
