Event narrative

Winds were sustained at 30 to 36 mph with gusts as high as 47 mph near Beaver Creek and 45 mph at Magnolia.

Wider weather episode

Areas of southwest Minnesota were on the southern edge of a band of snowfall which brushed areas north of Interstate 90, and was heaviest from 3 to 6 inches north of Highway 30. A majority of poor visibility conditions as low as one mile or less was caused by the snowfall which was largely ahead of the stronger winds with this system. Winds were strongest toward the South Dakota and Iowa borders with gusts as high as 35 to 50 mph.
