Event narrative

Light snow began in the morning with bands of moderate to heavy snow moving in at times during the evening and into the overnight. Widespread accumulation amounts of 1 to 3 inches with the highest amounts in the southern and southeastern portions of the county. The highest accumulation observed was 3 inches from a CoCoRaHS observer between Jackson and Beech Island.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level trough moved into the southeastern US with a developing surface low moving near the Georgia and South Carolina coast. Light snow began in the morning but as warm advection and frontogenesis strengthened, a band of moderate to heavy snow developed by the evening of the 21st, continuing into the overnight with amounts exceeding 2 inches in the southeastern Midlands.
