Wider weather episode

A colder low pressure system moved across the region on the 25th through the 26th of January, and brought below average temperatures, brisk winds, and increased snow chances through the weekend. An upper trough that dropped south across the Pacific Northwest with cyclogenesis in the base of the trough forming a mid to upper level closed low circulation. This low pressure system then tracked over northern CA, and continued to track south into central CA through the 26th. High resolution (HREF) ensemble simulations projected the formation of bands of light to moderate snow showers starting the morning of the 25th continued overnight into the 26th. Higher, more favorable terrain areas around the eastern Lake Tahoe Basin, the Virginia Range that included Virginia City, and the eastern Sierra into Mono-Southern Lyon-Mineral counties had at least a 30-40% change for five to eight inches of storm total snowfall.

Measurable snowfall chances of 50-60% for something up to an inch or two extended from the Sierra Front east into west-central Nevada.
