Winter Storm — Mccurtain, Oklahoma

2025-01-09 to 2025-01-10 · Mccurtain, Oklahoma

Wider weather episode

A strong surge of Arctic air invaded Southeast Oklahoma during early January with bitterly cold temperatures and heavy snow that began during the early morning of January 9th and continued into January 10th. Overall, total snowfall amounts ranged from around 4 inches to near a foot in northern parts of McCurtain County. Given the very heavy amounts of snowfall, conditions were quite hazardous given the plummeting temperatures in wake of the Arctic air intrusion, resulting in treacherous travel on area roadways during this winter storm event. Very isolated instances of freezing rain and ice also occurred in the southeast portion of the county, but amounts were only around one tenth of an inch.

The following snowfall totals were recorded at various locations in McCurtain County:

1 NE Smithville: 11 inches, Battiest: 10 inches, 6 WSW Hochatown: 10 inches, 1 S Eagletown: 8 inches, Glover: 6 inches, Millerton: 4.8 inches, 7 W Hochatown: 4.5 inches, 5 E Idabel: 4 inches.

One isolated freezing rain/ice total below was recorded in southeast McCurtain County:

Haworth: 0.1 inch.
