Light freezing drizzle began during the evening of February 11 before stratiform precipitation changed to snow during the early morning of February 12. Up to 2 inches of snow was reported in Cherokee County near Columbus.

Wider weather episode

A shortwave trough over the Mountain West traversed into the Great Plains February 10-12, causing large-scale synoptic lift and stratiform precipitation across the southern and Central Plains. Two rounds of wintry precipitation occurred. The first occurred from February 10 through the morning of February 11, with no known impacts. The second, more impactful round occurred during the evening of February 11 through the morning of February 12. Light drizzle and freezing rain were reported across far southeast Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks before more widespread stratiform precipitation brought snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches across southeast Kansas. Numerous schools were closed across the region.
