Event narrative
Hundreds of trees, wires, and poles blew down in Taneytown, Linwood, and Uniontown. Several homes had roof damage and significant shingle or siding loss. Several outbuildings were destroyed, including a couple of sheds that blew over 100 feet. Trees blew down on MD-84 Union Bridge Road at MD-75 Green Valley Road, and on MD-832 Old Taneytown Road at Mayberry Road. The Public Safety Training Center in Westminster had a garage door blown in, and there was roof damage to barns around Union Bridge and Keymar. A tree was blown into a home in Frizzellburg. There were a few dozen reports of trees and wires down across the north half of the county from the Westminster area, north to the Pennsylvania line.
Wider weather episode
A small but intense bowing mesoscale convective system (MCS) tracked rapidly across northern Maryland during the evening hours, producing widespread and significant straight-line wind damage.
