Event narrative
The Sycamore wildfire started during the afternoon of the 4th. At the time the fire started relative humidity was less than 10% and winds were sustained at 30-40 mph. There was a peak wind gust 63 mph. A Red Flag Warning was in effect. The fire burned until the afternoon of the 8th and consumed 578 acres.
Wider weather episode
A tight pressure gradient developed behind a strong cold front. As a result, strong winds developed. The post frontal air was much drier. The combination of strong winds and dry air resulted in critical fire weather conditions.
