Wider weather episode

A more significant system moved through the region for the 6th through 8th

with heavy snowfall, strong winds, and falling snow levels. Snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches below 7000 feet, with 2 to 3 feet possible at the highest mountain peaks were projected for this storm. Dangerous travel conditions were expected over the Sierra passes with this winter storm system. Strong winds also caused hazardous driving conditions for high-profile vehicles, turbulence and low-level wind shear for aviation interests, blown around unsecured objects, potentially blown down tree limbs, and power outages especially overnight on the 6th. Therefore, a Wind Advisory was issued for the Greater Reno- Carson City- Minden Area and Southern Lyon and Mineral counties. A Lake Wind Advisory was also issued for Pyramid Lake with the strong winds in the Sierra overlapping with the Winter Storm Warnings in effect.
