Wider weather episode

A wavy, broken line of prefrontal storms draped across the lower Tennessee Valley and Southeast shifted into and through the Carolinas during the afternoon into the evening. The lead band of storms weakened significantly as it shifted into the southern Piedmont, but discrete thunderstorms ahead of the line moved into the Triangle, initially producing narrow swaths of sub-severe hail and damaging winds, before congealing into a singular bowing segment as it moved into the northern and central Coastal Plain.
