Event narrative

The Midland International Air and Space Port ASOS reported a peak wind gust of 97 kts due to a dry microburst from distant convection. Several other strong wind gusts were measured. Localized near-zero visibility from blowing dust was also observed. Reported wind damage in nearby Odessa and no faults found with the ASOS wind sensor support the validity of this observation. Time is estimated.

Wider weather episode

A broad trough across the western United States and a dryline across the Permian Basin and Stockton Plateau resulted in afternoon thunderstorms. Several severe right-moving supercells occurred over the Stockton Plateau, with left-moving supercells moving across western portions of the Permian Basin. In addition, a localized dry microburst resulted in intense wind gusts of 100 MPH or greater near Midland International Air & Space Port.
