Event narrative
Quarter sized hail northwest of Malden.
Wider weather episode
Significant instability built across the Mid-South as temperatures climbed into the upper 70s and lower 80s and dewpoints topped out in the mid to upper 60s. This warm moist air provided very high instability for this time of year. Additionally, plentiful shear and exceptional lapse rates were available. In response to daytime heating and subtle height falls, discrete supercells developed across the Missouri Bootheel during the late afternoon.
