Wider weather episode

Several waves of low pressure tracking along a stationary frontal boundary draped across the Ohio River Valley brought periods of showers and thunderstorms to the southern half of Illinois from April 3rd through April 5th. The heaviest rain occurred during the evening of April 4th into the morning of the 5th when amounts of 3 to 5 inches were common along and south of I-70. A Cooperative Weather Observer in Lawrenceville in Lawrence County measured 4.55 for the 24-hour period ending at 7am April 5th. Thanks to excessive rainfall rates, flash flooding developed across Lawrenceville during the pre-dawn hours of the 5th, resulting in the closure of 15th Street.
