Event narrative
Multiple reports and images of extensive thunderstorm wind damage in areas along U.S. Highway 177, approximately seven miles north of Sulphur. This included a mobile home that was blown off its blocks and destroyed, outbuildings significantly damaged, a travel trailer rolled, and numerous trees and large tree limbs blown down. At least one occupant of the destroyed mobile home was injured. Event time is estimated from radar observations.
Wider weather episode
An intense thunderstorm moved from western-north Texas into southern and east-central Oklahoma during the early hours of the 5th. While the boundary layer was relatively stable during this time, due to a significant warm layer centered around 700 millibars/1 km, widespread and intense damaging winds were observed with this thunderstorm. Reports of large hail, and associated damage due to wind-driven hail, were also received.
