Wider weather episode
A digging low pressure system and its attendant frontal boundary served up strong thunderstorms across the state of West Virginia on the afternoon of April 14th. Storms first formed over the lower Ohio Valley during the late morning hours and then tracked into West Virginia for the afternoon and evening hours. Damaging winds and large hail were noted within the strongest storms. A swath of large hail between 1.5 to 2.25 inches fell over Cabell County and across the Kanawha Valley into the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. Tree and power line damage was also observed within the strongest storms that afternoon before activity quickly dashed east of the mountains by that evening.
