Funnel Cloud — Harrison, Texas

2025-04-20 · near Elysian Flds, Harrison, Texas

Event narrative

A descending funnel cloud was captured on video near Elysian Fields High School. However, a NWS Storm Survey concluded that the funnel did not reach the ground, as no damage was found during the survey.

Wider weather episode

A longwave trough moved out of the Intermountain West into the Southern Plains on April 20th, which reinforced a weak cold front southeast into East Texas, Southwest Arkansas, and North Louisiana during the late afternoon through the evening into the early morning hours of the 21st. Strong heating ahead of the front as well as ample moisture enhanced instability ahead of the front, with large scale forcing sufficient along and ahead of the front/trough for the development of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. While no severe weather was observed, video from a member of the public indicated that one strong thunderstorm did produce a funnel cloud near Elysian Fields High School in Southern Harrison County, but a NWS Storm Survey did not find any damage in this area.
