Wider weather episode
A warm front lifted north across Lower East Texas to along the Arkansas/Louisiana border during the afternoon of April 22nd, allowing for the return of warmer, more humid air back north across portions of East Texas and much of North Louisiana. This resulted in ample instability during the afternoon, as an upper level disturbance embedded in the developing southwest flow aloft from the Texas Hill Country into the Lower Mississippi Valley progressed northeast across the area. Sufficient wind shear was also available, and combined with the strong instability, resulted in the development of scattered supercell thunderstorms across portions of Northcentral Louisiana. These storms produced large hail across portions of Natchitoches, Grant, and Ouachita Parishes, before shifting northeast into Northeast Louisiana by early evening.
