Wider weather episode
A mesoscale convective complex (MCS) that developed across Central Texas during the late morning and afternoon hours on April 24th progressed east into Lower East Texas south of Interstate 20 during the late afternoon hours. The air mass ahead of this complex of storms remained unstable through the afternoon given the very warm and moist conditions in place, which helped to sustain these storms as they pushed east into Deep East Texas. However, wind shear weakened with further eastward extent, which did result in a gradual weakening trend as they approached the Sam Rayburn and Lower Toledo Bend Country by late afternoon. However, these storms still produced damaging winds which downed multiple trees and power lines across portions of Cherokee and Nacogdoches Counties before weakening.
